His name was Hans Ullmer and he came to Panama in 1934. The government saved him from the Nazi clutches by giving him a Panamanian passport. He was an eminent sociologist and taught at the University, which then held night classes at the Instituto Nacional. Out of gratitude, he stayed for a few years, and then surrendered to the offers of a great North American university.
